This is my story
My story so far is that I am happily married to Mike, and I have 2 children aged 12 & 3yrs. I work full time as a mum/maid/machine - or so it feels. I have a long history of weight problems starting at the age of 11yrs (or thats when I become very conscious about my size), at 12yrs old I weighed 12st 5lbs. I was teased a lot at school and at home - a perfect recipe for disaster heading for depression big time - although at that time my mum had no idea about healthy eating etc to help me choose wisely etc. Anyway, I have spent the past 30yrs doing every diet on the market - and yes I have lost up to 5stone on one diet - but only to fall back into bad eating habits and regain the weight + more. I know exactly what to eat and what exercise I should be doing - but all my motivation has gone. I am now at my very heaviest and my joints are suffering severely - it really is a miserable existance, I seem to be eating more than ever to comfort myself because I am in a lot of pain (due to obesity) and I am very depressed about the way I look - so where on earth is the logic in that then? aaarrrggghhhh.!!!
I have booked an appointment to see a bariatric surgeon for Tuesday 9th October 07 to see if I am suitable for a gastric band - which does seem radical but there are no other options left. Will the band cure my insatiable appetite as well as my cravings for cake, sweets & chocolate? If anyone else has had this proceedure and had (or still has) a huge appetite for sweets/chocs etc I would dearly love to hear from you whether it is bad news or otherwise - I would just like to have some honest answers.....xxx

I cancelled the gastric band op., which was booked for 27th October 07, due to the lack of aftercare offered..I thought if I'm paying out £6775.00 privately, surely I should have more than just 6 months aftercare, and would I need to pay extra for re fills and x rays?
So, the up date now is my GP has wrote a referal letter to a surgeon with the hope that I will meet the criteria to have wls with NHS funding, with a lifetime aftercare package !!
