This is my story
Hi, My name is Teresa I am 41 years old and live in Norwich, thats in Norfolk for any one that does not know. I had a gastric band fitted on the 14th of August this year and have currently lost 3 stone. I have been overweight all my life, been to slimming clubs lost 4 stone only to put it back on again along with another 2 stone. On my last attempt at slimming clubs I lost 3 stone taking me down to 16 and a half stone but when I stopped going I put all the weight back on and more at my heaviest being 21 stone. Having a gastric band fitted seemed to be my only option and I researched this for nearly a year before taking the plunge. I too looked at Belgium, I also had a consultation at Harley street but I was lucky enough to have a great Surgeon Mr Rhodes at Bupa Hospital in Norwich just 10 minutes drive from my house.
People seem to think that once you've had this operation that the weight will come off without any more input from you but its still about choices, only you put food into your mouth and it takes a long while to get out of the bad habits. At the moment I feel as though the scales are not moving and i must be more strict with myself, but that's easier said than done.
I felt such compassion for Anne when she was on fit club because the makers of the show had not done their homework and if rersearched properly they could have helped and guided Anne rather than slate her on the show. I would like to have contact with people further down the line than me so see their progress and hear about their pitfalls and also people thinking about having a band fitted. Support is key and if we can all help each other more the better because unless you have struggled with your weight you do not understand what we are going through. Good luck and best wishes
