This is my story
48yr old wife and mother of 3 great kids, 18yrs, 15 yrs and 11yrs. Work full-time in my profession, 35 hours per week plus compulsory on-call on top of that. Would love to cut back my hours but my manager keeps blocking it. Studied for a masters degree for the past few years and graduated very proudly last June. I figure if you have to live at work you may as well make the most of it. I'm glad I did it but I gained 2 stone while I was studying. I was already big, was just under 8stone when we got married but gained significant weight with every child. Had reached 14 stone by the time I started studying. Increasing stress put more weight on me. Went to WW at one time but ended up even bigger, never again. The only thing in my life that I am not in control of is my weight. It controls me, it dictates where I buy my clothes, what I wear, where I go etc. I loved that Anne came right out and said on the Tubridy show that there's a whole ambience around being fat.....you must be stupid also etc. The way I was being treated at work as if I was totally thick made me do the degree and the difference now is fantastic. Outside of work however, it's still the same. There is discrimination and it does make you very self-conscious. I just can't seem to lose it but I'm sure going to try!! PhD in weight-loss - here I come.
