This is my story
I am 35 years old, and in February this year I weighed my heaviest at 19 stone (266lbs/121Kg). I had a gastric band fitted, and have gone on to lose just over 4 and a half stone so far. I had the operation in the UK, and I am delighted with my progress so far. Clothes have gone from a size 24 to a size 16.
I have struggled with my weight all my life, tried all the diets with some success. However, I lose the weight and then put it back on. I decided I wanted to do something to stop the yo yoing effect.
Having a gastric band is no easy way out. They don't put a band around your head, but having said that it is getting easier. I don't eat anywhere near the amounts I used to, and make much healthier choices. Depending on the level of my restriction, there are certain foods that are easier to eat than others. I always make sure I get my protein in first, followed by fruit and veg, and then finally carbohydrates.
I have always been a confident person and whilst I didn't like the extra weight I didn't feel like it held me back. However, after getting my degree, finding a job was harder than I had anticipated, and it was suggested to me that my weight could be a contributory factor. Whilst this isn't right or fair, I couldn't escape the possibility. Around the same time, a woman was in the press having lost a lot of weight having had a gastric band. I decided to research this, and decided on having it fitted. Best decision I ever made.
